Monument to Tank T-34

by Олег Александров

In Khabarovsk, the legendary “thirty-four”, a monument was erected in the Volochaevsky gorodok microdistrict. The executive secretary of the Khabarovsk regional branch of the All-Russian Society for the Protection of Monuments, History and Culture (VOOPIiK) Tamara Bessolitsyna says that the tank that is standing on a pedestal in the Volochaevsky town is not a battlefield. “It was on such a tank that the fitter of the Dalenergomash plant Boris Koshechkin fought (do not confuse it with the designer of the tank, Mikhail Koshkin),” continues Tamara Semenovna. - The exact same T34 tank now stands in Ternopol (western Ukraine), where Boris Koshechkin was the first to burst into the city on a tank and knocked out two German “tigers”. For this feat, he received the Hero of the Soviet Union. The T34 tank was put on a pedestal in Khabarovsk on the 30th anniversary of the Victory - May 7, 1975, in honor of the labor heroism of the workers of the Dalenergomash plant and all Far Eastern tankers who fought in the Great Patriotic War. However, the commemorative tank is younger than its counterpart. Tank T34 / 85 - already modernized. The number "85" indicates that this machine is equipped with a capacious turret with an 85-mm gun. Such tanks appeared at the front only at the beginning of 1944. The pedestal for such a colossus (32 tons) was built not reinforced, but reinforced concrete. True, the tank was delivered already in lightweight form, without engines and other equipment
