Amber Museum

by Roman Grinev

The only Amber Museum in Russia was opened in 1979. It is located in the center of Kaliningrad on the shores of Lake Verkhnee in the fortress tower of the mid-nineteenth century. The tower was built in 1853 in the neo-Gothic style under the guidance of the developer of a general plan for the fortifications of Konigsberg, chief of the engineering corps Ernst Ludwig von Aster, and was part of the system of city fortifications. She bore the name of the Prussian Field Marshal Friedrich Karl Don, a participant in the war of liberation against the invasion of Napoleon. The building is also a monument of the Second World War.
