Opoki

by Владислав Соколов

Flasks from the Old Russian language means "rock", modern geographic dictionaries under the flask imply sedimentary rock. The Sukhona River, with its turbulent flow in this place, exposed deposits of clay, marls, and limestones, which are more than 200 million years old. As a result, a mountain was formed consisting of many layers, about 70 meters high. In addition to the picturesque rocks, one can observe another natural phenomenon - a powerful fountain spouting on the bank of the river directly from the ground. In the summertime, a rainbow always sparkles over the fountain, and in winter the jets form beautiful ice sculptures.
