The scale of Mamayev Kurgan in Volgograd is truly impressive. For example, the total area of the complex is 26 hectares, and the length of the retaining walls, which are the boundaries of the huge burial, is more than 1,300 meters. The main dominant feature of Mamayev Kurgan is the sculpture "Motherland". Its height from the foot to the tip of the sword is 85 meters. At the time of completion of construction in 1967, the statue was considered the tallest in the world. Today, the sculpture ranks eleventh in the ranking of similar structures. From the foot of Mamayev Kurgan to its highest point, there are exactly 200 of them. This number is not accidental: the number of steps was designed in honor of the Battle of Stalingrad, because the fighting for the city lasted exactly 200 days.
