In the locomotive depot of the Serov branch of the railway, located on the territory of the metallurgical plant, work was always actively carried out on repairing locomotives and cars. Locomotive crews did this without interrupting production, during non-working hours.
In addition, in their free time, railway workers and metallurgists were engaged in the construction of military equipment - an armored train. An armored train is a design that had gone into oblivion, but in wartime was again in demand.
In Serov, already in March 1942, the first armored train was created. It was named after A.K. Serov, one of the founders of the city. The armored train was sent to Perm for technical equipment, and then to the front.
The armored train was assembled in the forge and mechanical shop of the metallurgical plant. The armor and structures for it were also produced there. The railway workers were busy equipping the carriages and the locomotive. The armored train builders spent 30-40 hours a day in the shop, not forgetting their main job.
