Sevastopol

by Владислав Соколов

“City of glory”, “holy city” - this is how the name Sevastopol is translated from Greek.   Sevastopol, like Kronstadt in the Baltic, was founded as a fortress and base of the Navy. In May 1783, the warships of the Azov Flotilla entered the Sevastopol Bay - this is how the “Black Sea Fleet” of the Russian Empire appeared.
