Curonian Spit - sand spit, located on the coast of the Baltic Sea and the Curonian Lagoon. The Curonian Spit is a narrow and long saber-shaped, strip of land separating the Curonian Lagoon from the Baltic Sea and extending from the city of Zelenogradsk of the Kaliningrad region to the city of Klaipeda (Smiltyne) (Lithuania). The name of the spit comes from the name of the ancient Kurshey tribes who lived here before the Prussian colonization by the Germans.
